LMAO!

At the risk of boring those I've sent this too already, not to mention throwing this OTT thread totally OT , check these out:
http://rinkworks.com/stupid/cs_programming.shtml

excerpt:
Quote:
One thing that many will run into in the computer industry, is employers who are rather clueless and yet don't necessarily realize this. In 1996, a friend told me about a boss he had that needed a C program written for him. After a week, the boss complained that the program wasn't done, and he asked my friend what was taking so long.

Friend: "The program is written, and I'm debugging it."
Boss: "What's wrong with you people? You make programming more difficult than it needs to be. I have Frontpage Express to write web pages with, and when I write code with it, I never need to debug it. If you were as good of a programmer as me, you'd never need to debug either."

Hey, fellas, how about everyone will go to www.php.net and get 4.1 final? Sounds good, especially knowing it has JUST been released (during past hour)! Now, where is sense of releasing new version at 9pm eastern? How am I supposed to sleep now?

Thanks. Go ahead, compile it and then tell me how Otherwise I'll just wait for the binary.

Newbies usually ask for complete code in the language they need (or have just heard of). They probably aren't going to ask for algorithms and if they do, they should know what the word means. (Although you shouldn't be surprised if one day I start asking Pascal questions in that forum )

Munkfish, meet my current boss
No kidding. He's good in running a business, handling clients, and even generating ideas for future development. But when it comes to the development itself, he stucks...
Usually, this is how it goes.

Quote:
Boss: "Tom, hows the site?".
ME: "Pretty good, finished some difficult sections on the administration side and I'm now moving to the client side".
Boss: "That's great! 'cause it needs to be ready tomorrow".
ME: "WHAT?!?!?!".
Boss: "Well, the client is getting rather nervous and she wants to try it out so I promised it would be ready for testing tomorrow".

ME: pulling my hair off

I should've listened to my mother. I could've been a dentist or a rocket scientist....

Yeah, but being a rocket scientist isn't as much fun or as challenging...

One would think it'll, at least, be an asset to have some sort of a diploma in their pocket

Same thing for the graphic design industry. When I first started here my mandate was for a paper catalog (100+ pages) I had a year to do it. Then it droped to 8 months, 6 months and finaly 3 months! I did it but I worked non stop and most cases with out sleep for 2 days in a row... Now they want from me; three web sites (simple HTML [static]) and a huge online catalog with thousands of products, crazy crazy organization (or lack thereof), almost imposible to properly structure my database tables. And you know what? All this MUST be done by mid January! Arrgghhh I'm 23 and going bald from yanking my hair out!

And to top it off I have a dynamic web site to build for a client of mine, my pickuptruck web site and portfolio plus I have an interview to build a web site for a school.

I'm lucky as hell to get this work, I've been a graphic designer for almost 7 years now and pretty good at it, I did some stuff for Ford, GMC, DaimlerChrysler, Nissan, Subaru & Advanced Accessory Systems... Mostly technical illustrations for the accessories manuals in the automotive industry.
