Hi All,
Wow, new forum design looks cool! Well done! But it feels that it has become slower. I mean, I get the top bar [Showing Devshed logo and various links to forums] and then literally wait for rest of the things to load.Is it that my internet connection is playing on me or everybody is facing the same problem?? JD

Theres quite a bit of activity today on the forums. There is over 300 users online right now. There is a slight slowdown, but I think it is from the traffic..

The forums do tend to slow down a tad when we hit the 300+ mark, which is why we are preparing to move to much beefier servers, but the eta for that is still about 6 weeks away.

Ok, was going to warn about newer versions having Apache 2 on them, but your safe with that version.
![]() Would still recommend FreeBSD though. ![]() |

I'm using redhat 8.0 in a production server, running apache 1.3.27, mod_perl 1.27, and PHP 4.something (custom installs all). No problems whatsoever, and it includes multithreaded perl 5.8.0.
It's MUCH easier to do this, I think, if you don't install apache during the OS install. . . This is going to betray my low-end nature, but what's so great about Xeon chips? Most of my production servers now run Athlons and some PIIs and PIIIs and I have nary a complaint. |

I'd like to point out that right now, DevShed and DevShed forums are running on: 1 non-dedicated box (it runs other sites that are owned by us, the currently nameless ex-owners of DevShed.com) with Dual Xeon 1.8 GHz processors (with HyperThreading, of course) 2 GB RAM IDE RAID 5 of 4 x 60 GB drives So this is definitely an improvement. ![]()
