1. A FLASH 5 forum added to the client side section (why not, you have Flash 5 listed on the main site).
A small vBulletin code hack that would require everyone to read the FAQ/Annoucenment/Posting Guidelines/whatever before they could post. Then newbies would be forced to read the posting guidelines/faq/etc before they could post anything. That would really help eliminate threads like: "Female PHP newbie needs URGENT help from PHP gurus about invalid mysql result resources and is pulling her hair out" |

Devshed has became political.

alright!!
Guys (that is admins), have you noticed that some of your labels aren't marked? For example, on the thread list down there you can see phrase "More than replies or 150 views " ---> more than how many? Then, if no result returned, why do you guys still display skeleton? That is, if I dont have a pm for last day, I still get the line where you select what to do with pms. Now I know that's how vbulletin was made, but it wouldn't hurt to adjust it a little.
edit: digits in 'member list' are white. On white background. That is not very easy to see them (unless you highlight, but that is not the way it supposed to be). And yes, you could add more then 5 pages at a time (+2 : -2 from current). I suggest make it +4 : -4 P.S. now every mod will hate me for critisizing their creation

Oh please don't start this. Just because you don't follow the guidelines when you post questions and people get frustrated doesn't mean devshed has become political. That has nothing to do with anything. |

I have a suggestion that might help organise the busier forums (especially the PHP one that seems to constantly have new threads). How about having sub forums to the main ones... For example you could have:
- PHP ---- Beginners Questions ---- Database Related ---- Security ---- Object Orientated Programming ---- Image Manipulation etc... I'm sure others could think of some more categories but this way, it would mean that things could be more organised and threads wouldn't be 'lost' as easily in the crowd...

If you want more of an example of what I was talking about in my previous post, then check out http://forum.btwracing.com - not all forums are set out the way I mention but some are and I think it works well... The MM2C and Rally forums are good examples.

put a search textbox on the main forum page (using preset defaults)
and label the search one in the nav bar advanced search or something like that check out http://groups.google.com for a good example |

One way of handling the busy forums would be to just split them up, rather than another level to navigate, you could have for example: PHP Beginner and PHP Advanced.
Another thing is quoting, this is probably a vBulletin issue, but I really hate the way quoting is done. It would be much easier to just insert > in front of each line (the standard usenet quoting), because then you don't have to make new quote tags all the time if you for example want to answer a post point by point. |

2Spyder (Cameron?), nuh that won't be a very good idea (dividing forums in subforums). Only handfull of users will follow that gudiline, but majority will just ingore it. Plus I think most questions cannot really be defined by any particular topic, especially those where discussion contineus with something different from what it started with. And another con is that separation will make forums difficult to navigate. On the other hand, the way andnaess suggested to do that seems to be a little better solution, but still, who's gonna determine which question goes where? Everyone has his own opinion what is 'newbe question' and what is 'advanced question' Good point about quoting. Last edited by AlCapone : October 27th, 2001 at 11:47 AM. |

I think devshed is great, and I've been coming here for a while. But I've noticed that it's been getting slower and slower. It took less than 5 seconds to load a page when I first came here, now it takes about 30 seconds to a minute to load a page.
And the other thing, the brown is just ugly. Other than that I think devshed is great ![]() Last edited by DJdrenaline : October 27th, 2001 at 02:11 PM. |
