Friday afternoon healthy eathing
I wonder if this is a standard school dinner menu in US?
http://www.d111.k12.id.us/BHMSmenu.htm When I was a kid, we were made to eat shepherd's pie, or casserole with vegetables and rice. That might explain why I'm not 25 stone. Are there any other webbified school menus out there to compare? I wonder how Finland (Datamike) or Germany (M.Hirsch) compare!... I'm off to find a UK one! Christo ![]()

That is a great deal more of a choice than I had when I was in school.

Yup, that looks pretty typical, from what I've seen.
I also don't remember having that much choice in school- You were SOL if didn't like what was served. I also went grade school in a pretty rural, poor part of the country, so I'm sure we didn't have the money for multiple-choice lunches. I still fondly remember the tater tots- they just don't seem as good when you make them yourself. . . |

Hey,
We had: fish and chips burger and chips roast beef and chips pork and chips chicken burger and chips fishcake and chips chips and chips... ...possibly with extra chips if you're lucky. Ask for the vegetarian and you either got an offer of pork (erm, pig, meat, make the connection) or something that looked like swamp... and erm, chips. |

I think the best thing we had in school was the octogon shaped pizzas. There was just something about those stop-sign pizzas that would make you hungry for more.

Poor Japan
Thank God I didn't grow up in Japan - Here's a photo of todays menu at Taimei JHS school. What is that stuff in the bowl?
http://www.infobears.ne.jp/school/t...nshin/pic11.htm I wonder if the stuffed toy could be a clue to what's on the plate !! |

pizza, fries, coke, burger, chips is about average from my experience. Dont ask
postition requires spending some time in public schools (sometimes even middle). However, colleges seems to have better deal of choice for food.Speaking of other countries, canada seems to spend fair share on food for high-schoolers. France doesn't however (did seems so from couple days I've spent there). Russia, good food in schools? - forget about it.

Then there was those days that important people came to visit... there was:
prawn cocktail kiwi fruit edible food some kind of imbalance, all those important people must have thought we ate like keys, 'cept the girls, who ate like queens (naturally). |

I know what you mean, binky, my uncle used to do the same when he was principle in high school. Good thing I didn't go to that school. Even though I work for government - today I gave them 2 week notice - I wasn't meant to be any kind of 'inspection' or anything like that, and I hang around kids in different schools quite a lot, so I doubt there could be any sort of faking going on.

Sounds pretty bad to me...
I live in Finland and we were "forced" to eat stuff like: - meat soup - spagetti and meatballs - stuffed cabbage - beetroot beef - macaroni cassarole - blood pancakes and other tasty foods... Well we had pizza like once a year and those spagetti and meatballs we had every 4 weeks... But all and all it wasn't so bad and can you believe those foods are actually quite tasty. At least to me... AND the fat% of average Joe used to be low, though it's climbing up nowadays.- Miska Last edited by Miska : July 10th, 2002 at 05:34 AM. |

Reminds me of that bit in "The Catcher in the Rye" where Holdon explains how they would serve steak on Friday, so when the parents came to the school to visit on Saturday the kids would answer "steak" when they were asked what they had the night before

It's like regular small pancakes, but you put animal blood to the dough when you make em.
