I used to love listening to the sound of everyone shutting their windows in the morning as they go up (I live in an apartment). Just the feeling of being there as the world comes alive again

ACK. I get up at 14:00, spend the day at the PC, go to bed at 04:00. (Well, at least till the next weekend, after that I'll have to go back to school which means only 5 hours at the keyboard every day.)

To those of you who have tried getting a life: did it hurt? Where did you find the RFC for communication with humans?

Let's see how i've done. Yesterday I got up at 14h and spent the whole time stoned and on the computer untill 3h then I got up at 10h30 to go to college and i'm back now at 16h. I really have to cut back on computer time (but Linux is so interesting!!).

I don't think so, you can do alot worse with your time then being in front of a computer. I think it is great because I am broadening my knowledge of all kinds of great things, and anything that looks good on your resume is worth the time As long as you are continually learning and enjoy it, you should be thrilled with what you are doing.

You're right! Not 10 minutes ago I learned that if you open two copies of M$ FrontPage at the same time, Windoze NT reboots itself. Clever! You know why Linux sucks? It doesn't do neat tricks like that! It's just so boooring... And of course.. any system that works just as well today as it did 4 years ago on some old decrepit computer must not do anything. Windoze is great because you always have to buy a new computer to use all of its neat features - like automatic rebooting!

Stupid computer.... someone get me a mallet... thy combination of Compaq and NT doth drive me to perpetrate thine doom evil hellspawn! I curse thee back to the dark pits of Redmond!

M$ wants you to use n073p4d for websites. (After all, is there anything better than using it for HTML (or any other code in which indentation is usually used) around 03:00, pressing Ctrl+F and hearing the reassuring <beep> that says: "No, you're not going to get the search box just like that. Go through the Klingon rites first (yes, all of them that hurt)."?)

(Btw, getting even more OT: with sentences like the above, it is really nice to have ViM's brace-matching )

I don't get a beep.. more of a condescending <ding>. I'm going to set up instead so that it plays the "Blue's Clues 'Letter'" clip in place of the <ding> (think about how often that damnable !ding! goes off to helpfully inform you that you're an idiot.. then.. those of you who have children think about that awful Blue's Clues song that that freak sings to bongos each time they get a letter in the mail and you'll understand how awful it would be).

Besides... how $700p1d are we? All you have to do to get a search box in notepad is press ALT+S+F. And the umm.. shortcut... keys are all helpfully bunched together to! Oh! And look.. when I use the mousewheel to scroll UP in Frontpage, it starts automatically scrolling DOWN the page very... very... slowly. And I can't do anything stupid like stop it from scrolling....

I like Media Player too.. I'm lucky enough to have the version installed that sends information about what you're listening to or watching back to Microsoft's flunkies... you know... Microsoft could just use that technology to take people's credit card numbers when they register Windows and use it to purchase all the upgrades they (ahem) _need_ FOR THEM... hey, now THERE'S an idea.. that's REAL customer satisfaction....

Finally, there's that friendly little Window that pops up on my computer to inform me that I'm using selective startup to troubleshoot my system. Every time I check the box that says not to show it again, but, thankfully, Microsoft protects me from missing that knowledge by DISPLAYING THE BOX EVERY TIME WINDOWS STARTS NOW (even when I'm not using selective startup! - Yay!)

The best part is though, that since the lid on the coffin (yes.. coffin) is nailed shut... I don't have to worry about fixing these things myself.. I can just wait for Microsoft to do it.... and wait.... and wait... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... I'd pass the time listening to music in Media Player.. but then someone named Bill might steal my credit card number....
