Getting work (if you're going the independent route) is a different skill from actually being a PHP developer.

I know some PHP, but there are some dudes around here who I doubt I'll ever touch I'm still a beginner too.

Dude, don't get me wrong. It can be hard, but don't let that stop you trying. Just be realistic and don't get discouraged if you get turned down a few times. I'd take that over working for the man using .NET/Java any day of the week

Work out what you want to do, and then go for it. Life is too short to live any other way.
