IE6 thinks the whole world is a bitmap!

Would anyone have any clue as to why IE6 might think that every file on the web is .bmp when I try to save it?

If I go to a page, and try to save it, it tries to save as a bitmap. The same goes for images, sound files, whatever happens to be the target of the File > Save As function in IE6 when it's issued from the menu bar. Now, if I right click a link INTO the file and do Save Target As, it grabs the right extension. Anything saved in any other manner, however, saves as a .bmp no matter what.

that probably is an error, but that doesn't mean you can't change it. Once it shows as the bitmap, you change the file type extension before you save it on your harddrive to whatever you need.

Thanks for responding.. but I now note that I didn't make the problem clear

The big problem here is that the only file type option I have is .bmp. Ummm... huh? Even if I type my own extension in, it still saves as a .bmp, but no graphics viewer can open it (even if it is a graphics file of some other format). Bizarre...
