Illegal songs on an IPOD ?

    Hi,

I will be flying to the US tomorrow, and I need to know this quick >>

#1 I have a lot of songs on my IPod. How do the custom authorities know that they aren't illegally downloaded ?

#2 I have compiled a set of 7 DVDs that have mp3 songs sourced from various sources, so if I take these DVDs will they cause a problem at the airport ?

    Thanks
    -Mav ...
p.s. I hate to do this, but this is really urgent

Does customs even check that kind of stuff? I thought they were just concerned with weapons, fruits, exotic animals, etc.

...Huh. London apparently checks hard drives for porn (9 year old article, though), so I wouldn't put it past US Customs to check for something like that. I can't find anything about such occurrences, though.

I hope that all they are concerned with is weapons, fruits, exotic animals, etc.

Sorry, but I couldn't stop laughing at that !!

Do you honestly think that customs authorities have time to check the legality of music on an iPod !? Imagine if they did that for everyone that went through customs, it would take you a year to get through.

They already know that you're coming and have set aside a special room for you in customs.

The latest software update for your IPOD included a bluetooth signal that broadcasts the serial number and your registration information when it detects illegal software on it. That information is then electronically sent to Customs officials along with your Drivers License information and picture so that they can identify anyone trying to smuggle over illegal songs on their IPOD.

Of course they will check they will check if your songs are illegal! Can you imagine if someone got on a plane with an illegal 50 Cent song?!

At which point they pull you out of the line for - shall we say - closer inspection. I hope you like the Caribbean, I hear the weather's nice at Guantanamo this time of year. You'll pick up a Q'ran at the gate to replace that insurgent iPod of yours.

Just edit out the "this song downloaded from Big Joezlolz on t3h Kazaa" note in the meta IDv3 tags in your MP3s and you'll be fine.

Actually I thought it was a pretty good question.

Though I think that the purpose of the check is to keep you from bringing in things that could kill people and stuff.

If your super paranoid you could just copy the songs to your laptop then put some super duper good encryption on all of your music library, and then pass it off as a file on your hard drive that has been corrupted or something. But i mean that is a lot of work to go through over a petty music collection.

Put a large post-it on it saying "THESE SONGS ARE LEGALLY DOWNLOADED, I PROMISE" and you'll be fine.

Hmm after reading hard again and again, trying to figure out which posts had sarcasm in them ( ), I think its best I avoid it.

Just gonna take my programming library and my entire anime collection.

p.s. This question was indeed valid.

Time to make life easier: ALL OF THEM.

Could the airport people actually care about what songs are legally downloaded and aren't? I thought they were after drug smugglers and such?
