Hello from Chicagoland.
I've been programming computers for 25 years. I started on an Apple with BASIC and Machine Code my first year high school. I took all the programming classes my high school had to offer. I owned the Atari's 400, 800 and the 520 ST where I wrote cheesy games in Assembly. After high school I got a Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering at ITT Technical Institute. Then I got a job consulting in mathematics for a Paradox database programmer. That's when I started my 17 year career programming computers starting in Qbasic, C and databases on the IBM (286) under DOS. Shortly after that I loaded Windows 3.0 and started working with VB and C++ doing OOP. I've been freelancing for the past 10 years. I've done most of my projects using C/C++, VB, Access and SQL in Windows. But I also wrote an entire database in C on UNIX. I've done a few small projects in .NET, and I've created a few websites for myself and friends. However being a veteran programmer, I still get mostly legacy projects. Now I want to get more involved with .NET and Web Development. Well that's my story in a nutshell. I'm glad to be here, and look forward to meeting fellow programmers. |

It would have been neat to learn at the time you did. Even though I started later, on an Apple (actually a friend's "Trash 80" in grade school), I feel lucky I got to learn about programming the CPU directly using Machine Code. I think that helped me a great deal in learning the higher level languages. In college we learned about the electronics of the Microprocessor (Z80, 68000) which also helped a great deal. Quote:
That sounds interesting. I'll check it out. |

Well, the original poster had a similar format, so I figured I'd use that. I'm lazy...
