ip's from google????

I have set up an ip tracking system the other day, where I can record the ip address of the person who visits my site.

Well yesterday I had like 60 page views from various ip addresses that were all VERY similar. I figured it was aol, because of the dynamic ip addresses.

But when I went to lookup the ip address online, it showed that it belonged to google.

Does anyone know what this means???

Are people searching for my site using google and the results it shows , records an the ip on my site?

I am new to this ip thang, and was just looking for some explanation.

I just searched onloine for a ip tracing , whois, engine...and I found one on sam spade.org....

Ok, and which ips did you look up and what makes you think they belong to google? I mean it is quite possible that googlebot was indexing your pages, and this happens very often. I just wanted to make sure.

Well that was my question really....would I record ip's if it is indexing??

the ip's i was getting were 216.239.46.173, and 216.239.46.xxx, a bunch of them. All at the same page. I thought maybe someone was messing with me, but then I looked it up and saw they belonged to google....just wondering.

Yep, thats google guys. Nothing bad, they are just indexing.

Like I said I am new to this stuff, but trying to make some kind of record of who is coming and going.

That just freaked me out a bit....a little too much traffic from one place.
