Do you have the Holy Bible in 20 translations on your nano sir? With keyword search on words such as tithings? No you don't! Until you have the Bible on your nano your nano is not worthy.

My first MP3 Player I purchased in 2001 and it had 32mb of internal memory. I have to shrink the songs to 32kb/s quality to fit more than 7 songs on it. My current MP3 player I found at target and it is a 1 gig flash drive with 2 buttons on it and a headphone jack. Only costed $15.

Until it broked.

A little straying off topic from mobile internet to mp3 players though.

Since I have rarely tried my phone outside of the SF Bay metro area let me try to refocus and ask about people's experience with carriers (Sprint, AT&T, etc) and coverage areas.

In other words: is there any place in Kentucky where these things are going to work? I know my last cell phone (it was cheap, pre-paid) didn't work in Denver. DENVER! No where. Not in my hotel, not outside, just got no signal whatsoever. It's not like I was in podunk, it's f*ing DENVER! Population 3,000,000+. That was just the phone signal, and it was a cheap plan I do admit but c'mon.

How have people's travels with mobile 'Net devices been?

My phone works everywhere I've been with it, which is a dozen or so states ranging from NY to NM. I one had one, though, which wouldn't work in Ohio. All around Ohio, yes, in Ohio, no. I think they had a Faraday screen around the state.

it can depend a lot on which provider you select out of state/area

I've found cheapest is rarely best when looking for signal.
You get what you pay for, it shouldn't be this way, but there's big money in cellular comms, and that's a lot of free dinners for any regulator to break through ... IMO, YMMV, but I've seen some real f*t bastard regulators ...

My Blackberry 8830 (Verizon) works here in Southern Oregon (middle of nowhere) and has good net speeds in about every other area I've gone with it (SF Bay, Seattle, Portland, and several areas up and down the Oregon coast).

This is completely opposite of my old Sprint phones (note the plural here ) which would show strong signals and be incapable of net or even basic notifications (calls, voicemail, wtf).

I have AT&T, works fine everywhere except my apartment. (The bollocks thing is I had the same problem in my LAST apartment, whatsup with that?)

What I don't understand is why there is this big thing about "3g" stream videos etc etc. I had it on my phone for a couple months and it was painful enough to bring up a couple google searches. I couldn't imagine watching a VIDEO. I still don't get what 3g is. Everyone keeps saying there is "3 gs", what the hell is this g!?!?

Regardless my phone has wifi capabilities, so I can just pop in a coffee shop to check my email, it's faster, cheaper, and better. I don't mind "suffering" those small amounts of time everyday I spend outside the range of a wifi connection.

3G is a network standard in San Francisco I get a 3G connection about half the time, and other times it connects to EDGE. I get the best signal at my house. When I'm downtown in the Financial District I get the worst. Especially up here on the 7th floor of 333 Market where I'm almost always on EDGE if anything.

3G is faster. It also drains your battery faster.

3G is faster. It also drains your battery faster.

I find that in smaller towns I get stuck on the old 2G network a lot.

It's like dial up with 10 times the latency.

Clearly this whole pocket computer accessing the complete Internet depends on good coverage where the people are. I would not think of places like Medford or even Bend as having enough people to cause the telcos to put in service.
