Is this bring back old thread day?
Why can't people learn to read the dates?

When people actually reads thos "How to ask" posts, they are told to "search" before posting...
When they find something similar while searching, they might find a post from Nov/2002 with a similar topic, so they open it, and post "this is also hapening to me, how do I fix it...?" Or maybe there are some days where people is more brilliant and have no questions... so, in owr helping spirit we start opening old threads to at least feel like we are helping someone... Greetings!!!

See that's part of the problem, it is very annoying when you start reading a thread, trying to see how you can help the person, only to discover it was answered weeks ago and someone is asking a many times different question. Personally, I find it extremely annoying, and I think many other members of this community do as well.

I agree with you... It could be useful some text or footer that could tell how old the ORIGINAL item is...

I suggest you learn to do this with threads as well. Read the first post (skim it if it's long or full of code), then move to the last post. You can usually tell the status of a thread by the last or second to last post. If you read the whole thing only to find the problem has been solved and somebody posted an unrelated problem, it's your own fault. Also, this poll is two-sided. There's nothing wrong with bringing up an old thread that maybe wasn't answered or that you have a question about some of the code used to solve the problem. However, I do agree that sometimes a new post appears on an old thread that only slightly relates, but I attribute this to what manoloweb said about people being instructed to search. Additionally, what we may think is unrelated, another (especially a less experienced individual) may think otherwise. // me no vote |
