Question Losing Traffic?

I am fairly sure that you all know that you lose visitors as download time increases. Studies show that this can be an astonishing 1% of visitors a second from the start and increasing exponentially as time lapses... you need to be almost instantaneous to a user with a high speed T1 connection, and within at least 15 seconds to everyone else.

How do you test this though? Well, I've finally got my system online for testing this. Simply go to:

http://www.northern-navigators.co.u...sian/timer.html

and try out a few sites.

maybe i'm retarded here....but it looks like the numbers are backwards...(i really hate reading graphs...lol)

Your Connection?
1.5Mbps 128kps 56kbps 28kbps
1.5Mbps -- 14.17 32.41 64.82
128kbps 0.10 -- 2.76 5.53
56kbps 0.04 0.52 -- 2.41
28kbps 0.02 0.26 0.60 --

okay so it reads correctly if you read across...but if you read down it doesn't read right... i mean .02 seconds to read on a 28.8?? but .10 on a 128 connection...it doesn't make sense...lol

I like this site. It is good to see that my site is faster than my parent company's site is, by a massive 1.1 seconds.

vr6stress:

It's not meant to be read downwards though. The four rows are meant to show the times when your connection is one of the on along the left.

I'm going to add something that measures your connection anyway, hopefully.

I have updated it:

http://www.northern-navigators.co.u...ian/timer2.html

this does a connection test first. But could someone test it to see if it is accurate?

Please?

Seemed somewhat optimistic when I tried it. Though I'm still waiting for the initial test to finish with Opera...
Anyway, it reported a 256kb connection as 310kb...

Hmm, I'll have a rethink. Though it's already a complicated procedure that seems a bit optimistic in general.

At work here the connection is a shared 1.5Mb or something, so it varies wildly. As not many people use the internet I can sometimes get 400k+, othertimes it's about mid 100s.

Well I've tested www.digitalstate.net. At home I have 1.5mbits and digitalstate.net is on shared but I usually get ~2.5mbits, so I expected to get fairly good numbers, but I too had a problem reading the chart
Update: now it shows my speed (as 1.3 though), but still how do I work with other numbers like on 128 256 etc?

Okay, this version seems more accurate. I think.

I ran it side by side with another bandwidth test online, and at one point the values almost matched!
