M$'s attempt to push Windows in China
well i heard this on the news the other night, and i found it quite funny so i thought i would share. it goes something like this if i remember correctly...
Microsoft wanted to convince the Chinese government to use Windows on their systems. So, M$ being the kind folks they are decided the Chinese government would be more likely to accept their offer if the code were written in Chinese rather than English. So, M$ decided to hire a bunch of Taiwanese programmers to port the code over to Chinese. Now, most people know that China and Taiwan don't exactly have the most cordial relationship, but apparently this eluded Mr. Gates; or more likely he was just concerned with the fact that Taiwanese workers could be paid much less and didnt care. Lo and behold, the Taiwanese programmers spiced up the code with TONS of comments like "kill the fascist pigs" and "the communists must burn" etc etc. Upon receipt of the code, the Chinese officials were enraged and immediately cancelled and decided to go with Linux!!!! w00h00 3 cheers for Linus and his politically correct code ![]() |

China has been a long time "Anti-Microsoft" government and consumer population, and studies in the past showed that microsoft was out numbered by 9 to 1 (for every 9 operating systems installed, only 1 was a windows varient).

I wonder how many of those are pirated. Then again, maybe that's why the figures for micro$oft are that low, because they only counted officially owned copies .Seriously, my cousin was in HK when Win 2K was going to be released and he said that pirated copies were available on the street before the official release.

This sounds like a modern urban legend to me... Even if it was on the news...
AFAIK they donīt want to rely on software from other countries that they have *no* influence nor control on (the software). Linux is open source and they are mainly using their own linux distros (eg. "Red Flag Linux"). This way they canīt be ****ed over by the "capitalistic pigs". Conflicts of interests - I do understand their position 100%... Think about it.
