I've got a question. I have checked the little box where it says send me an email everytime someone answers my question. Thats pretty neat.

You guys have also got 'Subscribe to this thread' so i know when anyone answers someone else's questions. How do you guys do that?

how would i go about doing something like that?

See the copyright statement on the bottom of the screen? That states that the software, vBulletin 2.2.0 is owned by Jelsoft Enterprises Limited. As the only part that's own by devshed.com, is the forum and and it's content itself.

Anyway, I'd say that the 'Subscribe to this thread' and all other properties and cool effects of the forum are a part of a larger proportion. If you want try find out, download the vBulletin Lite version. A simple answer would be, "hard work"

phpbb is a free forum based on vbulletin, but it lacks quite few important features of vb. Even though it is free, I dont think it is better then vbulletin.

We are IN NO WAY based on vBulletin. When I created phpBB I was only sightly aware that vB existed. I based the style off UBB.

Sorry..just had to clarify that.

I'm thinking we better leave this as a matter of opinion. I've studied both phpBB and vBulletin Lite and I gotta say I'd favor vB's source code more. I'm also aware of a PHP site, managing phpBB forum, who are currently pulling their hair off 'cause their phpBB has gone haywire and they unable to fix it.

But hey... What do I know... F*** me...

There are lots of bb's out there, so it just a matter of preferences...

And I think it would be fairly easy to create these mail reply features that vbulletin utilizes. The only drawback is that it would require additional queries and the more features of this kind you add, the slower it gets...

BTW Happy birthday Datamike!

XMB forum is good one.

This question has been asked before so search PHP forum , you would find lots of opinions.

By the way, happy returns of the day, Datamike !!!!

Thanks guys
I didn't actually remember that it was my birthday before I got a e-mail message from Aikiweb Forums (they use vBulletin) with congratulations and a happy link to their site

Anyway, I only mentioned the phpBB problem. It had no strong feelings behind it. Totally innocent. But yeah, making these utilities is fairly easy. All it requires is an extra can of coke and few more working hours. I'm imagining that the real problem occurs when you have to get speed and stability to the forum. Like NoXcuz said, the more you have the slower it gets. So you need the consider things out the the forum too. Server, configurations, etc. And in my opinion, the best forum is a simple forum. vBulletin is a complicated piece of software, but seems to also have good quality programming. After all, devshed.com forums are huge and still they work fairly easy.

Of course that's only my opinion...
