MS Outlook is TOTALLY AWESOME!
Microsoft Outlook is such an AWESOME program! It's TOTALLY AWESOME, in fact!
When I right click a message, NOTHING happens! It's GREAT! No stupid MENUS to go and get in the way of my actual work! I mean, WHY would I ever want to mark a message UNREAD if I already READ it? How STUPID would that be? Oh, and of course the actions menu is empty too so I can't do anything stupid like recall a message I sent! Pffft. That's a DUMB feature and I'm glad it doesn't show up any more! Just to be sure that I don't waste my time on stupid messages like meeting requests, recalls, voting replies, or anything that's not a regular email, Outlook makes sure that I can't preview OR open those types of messages! TOTALLY AWESOME! The Phillistines that send those messages get mad at me, but I'm GLAD I can't open them! Oh, and of course it closes itself every couple of hours. Sometimes it tells me. Something like "Memory violation at 0xF3c778C", but when it knows I'm working, it just silently DISAPPEARS. COOL! I'm glad it does that, some of my other stupid apps like Evolution and Open Office NEVER close unless I tell them to! I mean, how STUPID is that? They never get any rest! How can they perform at their tip top level if they never get any SLEEP? And I feel STUPID too because Outlook is so AWESOME! I attached 8 word files to my email. When I clicked send - BAM! The message disappeared. But I was STUPID and I thought that that meant the message was sent. Nooooo, Outlook just does it in the background without any progress notification or anything - you know, so it doesn't interfere with other work! But I'm STUPID and I thought I could DELETE the attached files from the disk since the message was off screen and in my sent folder. Silly me! It was still sending the files! Now I have a locked up folder on my personal network drive that can't be deleted due to sharing violation. Geez, I wish I wasn't so stupid. I interfered with such a TOTALLY AWESOME program! ..... Had to get that off my chest.... |

Dude, I know how you feel.
[Pats Ctb on the shoulder]Ctb is an other example of how everyone is getting screwed by M$. I wish I would just move everything over to Linux and not worry about it. But alas, I have much Linux knowledge to learn before that most excellent day will come. ![]() |

Not to defend M$, but you may have something else wrong with your computer. I use outlook (mainly because Nutscrape doesn't have scheduling abilities) and other than the constant security updates it's ok.
My right clicks work as they should, my actions menu has all the stuff it should, etc. As for sending attachments, you can set the program to automatically send when you click the send button (that annoyed me as well until I found the setting). On the upside of Outlook, there is a plugin from Cloudmark that really does a good job on Spam. I would rather have Evolution, and do everything on my linux box, but there are a few apps that I need windoze for.

You can always run VNC on your linux box and use evolution from there on your windows boxes. On a local network, you'll hardly notice a speed difference. Evolution is such an excellent email client, that I think the extra annoyance of putting VNC between you and it would be worth it.
Luckily, at work I can use whatever I want, which happens to be Redhat 8.0. BTW, speaking of email, you HAVE to check out http://popfile.sf.net - It's a Bayesian mail filter that goes WAY beyond just spam. It's cross-platform and written in perl. My brother, who gets a lot of spam, gets 92% accuracy already with minimal training. I've been using it, and it's a VERY good program with great features and accuracy. Well worth the price. . .free. By brother loves it so much he's going to send the author a donation, and knowing how cheap he can be that's a major accomplishment. |

I have to agree with thedude on this one, I think it may be a computer problem. I've been using Outlook for 3 years, first 2000, and now 2002, and my right-clicks work fine, my menus do what they are supposed to. I am content with it.

I wouldn't go as far as to saying everyone is getting screwed by Microsoft. I'm not a huge fan of them, but I have no evidence of ever getting screwed by them. In fact, I can't count the amount of free stuff they have given me at no cost... t-shirts, books, Visual Studio 6 Professional, Office XP Professional... So, I definately think that the word "everyone" is an overgeneratlization. I would say something like "Ctb is another example of why many people are unhappy with Microsoft products." |

Nah - it's an Outlook problem, not the PC. M$ has "steps" to fix the problem, which, of course, when followed do absolutely nothing
. If I had a penny for every "step" I've followed from the support.microsoft.com site that wound up doing nothing but stealing precious time off the end of my life.... They say it's a corrupted frmcache.dat file - I say it's a lousy design process and micromanaging nitwits with a healthy dose of poor quality control thrown in to boot (I actually DELETED the frickin file to no avail after their "steps" failed to correct the problem). And, of course not EVERYONE is getting screwed by Microsoft. There are those few people that are lucky enough not to have to use ANY of their software after all. ![]() I love Evolution. Clean, sharp interface. No clutter, hooks to Exchange server (for a very very reasonable price). Outlook, on the other hand, is expensive, cluttered, and generally worthless IMHO. When you factor in the glut, price, and viruses, it's not worth a bloody penny. Speaking of stupid Microsoft tricks, I got my first copy of Sobig yesterday (twice). It took a month for that one to make its way into my Inbox... hey look! Another thing I don't have to worry about using Ximian's most excellent tool! Yay! [tangent] Of course, using Linux, I don't have "reboot-to-fix-pc" syndrome either. And when a reboot doesn't work, I don't have to resort to a re-install of the system. I love that.. "Windows is easy to use! To fix problems in Linux, I have to tweak scripts and text files and..." . Ummm... yes.. but in Windows you generally don't fix the problems... you just learn to live with them, or you reinstall to get rid of them.. how is that better? |

I agree with you, fixing a Windows problem is basically impossible, and results in just a reinstallation of Windows, whereas yes, Linux is much easier to repair a problem in.
The way I think about software, and not necessarily pertaining to your situation, but just in general to anti-MS people: you don't like something, don't use it, make a better product, and use that. But yes, generally, Windows is a bitch, but I've been using XP Pro for the past year and I haven't had a single crash, the only problem I have had to date was a compatibility issue with my webcam driver. In fact, I haven't rebooted this machine for almost 3 weeks, and the only reason I rebooted then was to install a patch. Not a bad OS, in my opinion. Could be better, but could be worse. How can it be worse? Well, it's not WinME, thankfully. |
