Netscape 7
I would just to hear some user input on Netscape 7.
Have you noticed any major improvements or downfalls? How does it fare with supporting standards? I have been using for a few hours now, and I must say that I am very pleased with it. Its much better than Netscape 6, and I have a feeling that Netscape 7 will be the one that actually has a chance against IE. Any thoughts? |

To be honest I don`t care how good it is or if it becomes a major rival to IE, as long as it renders my coding properly without me having to do extra work thats all that matters to me.

Netscape 7 is relatively the same as Mozilla 1.1. As far as I can tell, everything still works the same as it would if you coded it for a Mozilla or Netscape 6 browser.

its usually the other way around for me. have to adjust the code so it looks normal in ie, while moz/oprea renders it with out any faults, and pretty much alike ![]() but everyone know it is with ie and standards . i'll stick to mozilla, as netscape hasn't the disable pop-ups built in, ( yeah know its just a quick fix in the prefs file, but i'm lazy ) |

Netscape 7
The only thing I use Netscape 7 for is to make sure the web site I design displays the same as in IE, or at least very close to it.
I still do not originally design for the Netscape browser. Does anyone? Except Mac users? |

Netscape 7
When I started in the web development biz, I used to code for Internet Explorer, until I came to the realization that Mozilla and Netscape are the ones displaying it right, or I should say, rendering it correctly (as I coded it).
So, I code and test in Mozilla to be sure that my code actually follows the REAL standards, and not the Microsoft ones. I have nothing against Microsoft, I have been a customer for a long time, and I will continue to be. However, Internet Explorer, while the pages look "prettier" aren't compliant with the actual standards whatsoever. So its not Netscape that message up your page, Netscape displays exactly what you code, its Internet Explorer that messes it up. And yes, I just noticed that, dont ask. |

Well NS7 renders pages alot closer to IE 5.5 now well as far as i can see and its not that hard to make small changes to the bits of the site that look fine in IE and look out of place in NS as long as every NS user upgrades from that excuse of a version 6.x we all should be fine...
as for me and what i code for it has to be IE as its the most widly used browser out there (mainly because its what comes with windows and most "new" users (makes up most of the web ,i think, today) would not know what NS is if it landed in front of them. If i was a software developer and wanted to make money i would not aim at the minority i would make for the majority! seems a shame though i like the other browsers but untill the day NS or Mozilla comes as standard on Windows Instalations *s******* i will code for IE... |

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that NS6 comes with windows XP HE now. Or at least I know of someone who has recently bought a new computer from CompUSA and it came with NS on it.

I think in the latest service pack the vendors can now choose what software they want on Win XP instead of being forced to use IE, outlook Express, WMP 8.x and umm... cant think of any more right now...
but you get the idea! |

IE vs Netscape
Actually my code renders well in N6 it is the lower versions that sometimes caused blowups.
In addition image manipulation is different and that gets on my nerves. However I like the updated Netscape a lot better than older versions and I agree that it renders code very close to IE. Wheee |

Funny, Windoze users say the same thing about Linux. Like Onslaught said, Mozilla 1.1 and NS 7 seem to be relatively the same from a developer's perspective.. NS 7 is a serious pain compared to Mozilla when it comes to usability though. |

How about scripting with JSObject (i.e., Java applet to JavaScript communication): Does anybody know if NS7 supports this (NS6 didn't)?
