Re:

When are people going to learn? Web surfers loathe ad banners. We need to start coming up with more innovative ways to advertise products.

I don`t know where you get your info but if web surfers loath banner ads why do those same web surfers click on the adverts?

Ill tell you who clicks those banners.

Internet n00bs. People that think the banner or the product is being offered by that website. People like my mother.

The general consensus is that people HATE ad banners.

I respect businesses though, and in fact, I use them, because money is money. I was just stating an opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

Sorry if it made anyone angry.

I'm not angry, I just think your opinion is wrong and as this forum is a discussion area for this type of topic I started a discussion by asking a question.

As yet I have not participated in any type of banner advertisments for my web sites, but I intend to.

The general concensus I think you mentioned is wrong, because it is not just noobs who click banner ads, I click them and I am certainly not a noob and I know of atleast one other non noob in the form of rod k (I think) who started a discussion on one of the merchant account services that had a banner on this forum, which he clicked and then decided to go and investigate the service further.

So I think the general concensus is more along the lines of banners are a pain in the rear end unless they are something you as the surfer are interested in.

banner ads

Well... some people do not like banner ads but I really hate pop up ads. They are awful. From my point of view text ads are the best way to promote...

regards
D.

Back before I started using Mozilla and Opera I NEVER clicked popups. A popup ad on a website was a sure way to get me to leave that site for good. I almost never clicked banner ads, but that's not to say that I "hate" them. On the contrary, I intend to look into an ad system shortly. Nothing's free after all....

I can settle for that. I agree with that 100%.

However, I do believe that web developers that work independently need to study more marketing techniques to properly target their users.

I guess I wouldn't mind it as much if websites DID display ads that I am interested in. I just don't see many ads of interest these days.

I don't even want to get into popup. Thats a whole set of complaints with itself.

What I really hate are those flash banner ads that turn INTO popups and make you wait while they put on a little show for you. Innovative? Yes. But they are a pain and I really wish they never would have been created.
