New F1 rules
Hi!
So what do you all think about the new F1 rules? I think they are great for the sport (just look at the race last weekend). GO KIMI! - Miska |

hmmm I dont think that they really have had time yet to show if they will make an impact.
Shumacher (sp) & Barricello were still 1 & 2 on the grid, still wondered off into the distance within the first couple of laps and were it not for a bad 'which tyre' decsicion the race would probably have been the usual 1,2 for Ferrari (Barricello going cactus aside )The qualifying was a bit unusual with Sauber and Jags in places they had no right to be but I think that even if that continues that it will only be a temporary advantage on race day (Monaco aside )Still a good Mclaren performance though and it would be nice to see a better competition this year though for me I think its only the new points scoring system that will really make much of a difference , that and the fun and games if minardi's etc ever end up qualifying high up and causing chaos at the start ![]() But it still for sure makes things a little more interesting which can only be a good thing... then of course we Australians have to put up with channel 10 who cant go 10 minutes without a bloody advert , normally exactly when something interesting is happening , and insane in the membrane commentators who know the exact height to the millimetre of the different types of fencing anf the exact pantone colouring of the gravel grrrrrrr unretire Murray Walker is all I can say .. forcibly if necc'y ! ![]() |

New rules? Here's what I think about them - I live 30 minutes from the track and I couldn't be bothere going to seeing the race live. But I am not all that crazy about f1 anyway.
and firepages, doesn't ch 10 have exclusive right for grand prix in au? and yeah, it's schumacher aka shoemaker.

aye sadly , I mean channel 9 were hardly great , there used to be a website devoted to flaming their coverage f1fansvschannel9.com or something like that but I cant find it now~ but at least their presenters had a clue that we aint really interested in the fence heights or what special size of helmet is required to accomadate David Coultards Chin etc. Still at least we get to see some of it.. what narked me MOST about the adverts is that they were advertising other poxy programs which I was not going to watch anyway and refuse to now on principle , and half of them were sponsors of the coverage with images/vids of F1 cars - I kinda wanted to see the ones in the race ![]() |

I suppose things are a lot less predictable then last season. I think we need more time to get a true view though

The whole point of the new rule about not refuling the car between qualifying and race start was that slower cars could take advantage.
The theory was that the faster cars would run with nearly a full tank of fuel, because qualifying low on the grid doesn't mean anything when you can run longer on race day and take advantage there. On the other hand, slower cars would run light on fuel so that they get the limelight for a short time (for there sponsors), then get overtaken as expected. The first race didn't go to plan, the faster cars still took pole position, therefore making the race less of a race than hoped for. My thinking is that the sheer performance advantage of the Ferrari made it possible for the Ferraris to take the front row with a reasonable amount of fuel. So they may just drop down the grid a few places for future races, then their supremacy will be back to normal. And hell, in April the new Ferrari comes out, just to give them a better chance. |

Actually if you want to get real technical, the point of the no re-fuelling/changing the car after qualifying is to allow the small budget teams a chance to compete, cos they can't afford multiple engines etc.
We saw it with Jaguar and Sauber up there in qualifying. But then, where there is a will there is a way, as evident when Ferrari were leading for some time. I was there at the Melb GP and thought it made for a better event, as it wasn't as predictable as what it has been. But IMHO the FIA has gone to far with the rule changes. ![]()
