New forum suggestion - legal issues
I think that DevShed needs to open it's forums up to more than just the coding portion of software development. Perhaps adding a forum committed to helping users with some legal issues of software development: i.e. writing privacy policies, copyrighting your work, registering trade and service marks, etc...
Any comments? |

Sounds like a good idea. Questions about that pop up every now and then and I'd be nice to have one place to keep all of the answers...

The only problem I see is a legal one
. Having a bunch of programmers play lawyer for a while seems like it's begging for someone to get burned. I'd hate to see someone get in trouble over bad/wrong advice that was given out in the community. |

That should be in a sticky at the top of the forum.
If people don't get their advice here, they're just going to go to another forum. I think the "rules" of the forum should state that it's best to give links to official documents or web sites that'll give a good answer, rather than offering your 'opinion"... Well, that's my opinion... ![]() ---John Holmes... |

I agree with Holmes..
It would be good practice to mention that a forum of this type is not a replacement for a lawyer, it's just there to give an idea of where to start. |

We are going to take a very close look at all of the forum categories early this coming week - we will add the legal one along with a few others. Thanks for the input.

Since you're looking over the forum's thought I might suggest an LDAP forum (under Databases I think), I'm not sure if it would get tons of use but I know I for one am working on a large project involing LDAP and I won't mind helping others and asking my own questions of course ![]() If this isn't a good idea I'll just keep asking under general database.
