New Related Threads Feature
Hello all... I hope you have see the new "Related Threads" feature down at the bottom of the current thread you are looking at (assuming there is a thread that is related or similar).

I actually had to dumb it down to be honest, because in testing the more advanced way gave less relevant results than the simple way and that is because most people do not use descriptive titles (which is how we decide if something is Related).

If anyone finds that the results for a particular thread are really off please let me know.

I am currently working on a way to get more related threads, which will bring you to another page listing the other related threads. Although I am sure someone will post asking me to add that in

I have the feeling that this is going to cause a lot of old threads to be drug up from the depths of the archives... but other than that, it's a good feature.

Well... I could have it show the newest threads first but right now I have it returning based on the relevance factor instead of the date.

If you find old stuff is getting brought up let me know and I will order it by date instead (but they will be less relavant in theory).

i would think that posts that are relevant to DevShed's updates/additions would be relevant

no, seriously, it would be hard to get it that brilliant, although if you stop it getting related threads in PHP it would be good

Another thing, is that 'Developer Shed Network' bar at the top; I really think that the forums are starting to get a bit 'screen busy' now.

what about if you order by relavant but exclude things if there date is older then 3 months or something.

Yes certainly one option would be to make the related threads be in the same category the current thread is in. Obviously the chance of finding something realted to a lounge thread is not very likely and/or not really required I would not think.

I am a bit more worried that other threads have related posts to help people find what they are looking for. I am going to browse around a bit in some of the forums and see how things look in terms of how relevant they are.

Also as the date is concerned I could, instead of ordering by date which would therefore make the search kind of useless because it would no longer be related on how relevant things are, I could make it so that the search itself only searches 6 months back instead of searching everything.

I will mess around with these to see what works best but any other input is welcome.

Maybe it would be good to do the checking for the forum the thread resides in.
