PHP app locally on laptop
Hey,
I wrote a PHP app to do some athletics scoring, using MySQL db. However, I need to be able to run it off my laptop without connection to the net. Is there any program I can install (short of installing Apache, PHP and MySql) that will allow me to have a DB and run a PHP site locally? Preferable free ![]() |

Probably not. You do, after all, need a web server to serve web pages.

I'm not a PHP expert, but I believe there's some way to use PHP with GTK+ to make applications instead of webpages.

not a php app, more of a standalone php parser...

Not really, you can get them but they all emulate a webserver in the end and don't work that well. Most of the ones I saw also cost quite a bit, don't know why you would pay for it when it doesn't work that well.

Can't you set up apache/MySQL/PHP and then run from localhost 127.0.0.1?
That's what I do on my iBook to do offline development work. I see no reason why the same thing wouldn't work for you. |

i'll give it a go..
however, can I stop people viewing it from outside? I want to be able to test on my LAN, but not letting the world see in ![]() |

hehe - IonPanel created this page in 0.126073 seconds using 36 queries. The link you posted above - a whopping 2kb html file needed 36 queries and .126073 seconds. I know, shoot me for the off subject post. Just looking for stuff to nit pick at... Last edited by jpenn : July 19th, 2003 at 12:51 PM. |

Now Joe, we all know the real reason that page takes 36 queries is because they are using MySQL, and have no real concept of relational database abstraction. Oops, now I'm way off topic . |

LoL Anyway computer, back to the topic, I was doing some research a long time ago because I had a customer who wanted to run a demo web site off a CD which was of course written in PHP. Back then I did find a nifty peice of software that allowed you to do this, if you do some searches on Google you might find the same. The only limitations obviously because it was on a CD was that you couldn't perform writes of any kind, but you can download it to play with for free, you have to pay to get rid of some warning message if I remember correctly. Not sure how it was on performance though. If you hacked into it to find out how they have the engine running you could possibly port MySQL into it, but now I'm just theorising, the easy solution is of course Triad of Dev.
