I want to very carefully pick the motherboard (brand and model #) and graphics card.

Problem is suppliers will probably use some form of 'Ghost ' to install the OS in an effort to save time. This often causes problems as MS OS's are terrible at reconfiguring in response changing major components.

I'm not all that fussed with the CPU (I like the AMD price but have had overheating problems).

Memory must be a reliable brand (you would be surprised how many crashes cheap memory causes, much more than a bad MS OS ever did)

I don't want to learn. I want a computer to do my job, web development, for which I am already over my head in things to learn.
The companies I mentioned (Monarch and Envision) allow you to configure a custom system, for which you have to select virtually every component. For each component, such as the motherboard or the graphics card, they provide a list of options with the brand and model # to choose from. It's a little more detail than I was prepared for -- you have to choose everything, even the model of power supply.
