Pardon the tangent here but this reminds me of something that's been troubling me lately: these car commercials where the cars can park themselves, or "correct" the driver by slamming on the brakes or steering them "back in the lane" as the likes of Mercedez Benz (and I'm sure others) are now packing into their cars.

We aren't here yet. I don't trust this. Even bad drivers, even drunk drivers still have a semblance of a brain. How does the damn car know where the lane is? How does it know you're nodding off to sleep and not casually letting your car drift on purpose to avoid an obstacle (like, say, an animal or person). And maybe it can park itself in a space big enough to accommodate an RV but let's see it park itself downtown in Any City, USA. Or Europe for that matter.

Cars that correct the driver's driving ... I smell juicy litigation.

Back to your regularly scheduled topic, I leave you with

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. -Arthur C. Clarke

    • TheJim01 agrees : I dislike ''driver correction'' features as well. And I hope we don't just start rolling out auto-drive features peicemeal, but wait until a unified, standardized, uncompromizable, and COMPLETE system is available and ready for market.

    here's a (possibly unintentional) original :

    • DaWei_M disagrees : It's been a long time, but it still feels good. Possibly you meant Pepé le Pew. Who the hell knows.
