recruitment site, need help on best approach...

Hi,

I've just accepted a project to build a recruitment site and a requirement is to have client updateable vacancies, has anyone out there had any experience of designing a site like this ??

What I'd really like is...

a) client can add / remove vacancies to particular catagories .

b) newest vacancies are at the top.

c) detailed search options (location, salary, type, cat etc) plus a simple search.

c) when user clicks apply (or whatever) the correct refference / job title is already filled in for them.

d) users registers once, and (provided they've enabled cookies) they don't have to login again or enter details in the form.

I'm sure there'll be more...

I can use php4 and MySQL for this.

If anyone knows of any open source stuff / tutorials or have any pointers / tips / general pittfalls to avoid when doing this kind of site I'd really appreciate any guidence they could give.

Thanks,

Jon

Well, I'm no developer, and my memory is bad enough that I only remember like 1/4 of what you wrote, but I hope I can help :}.

Have the client log-in give them a key (flag, token, whatever) to identify them as the owner of said recruitment option in the SQL Database that will let them remove it when it's filled, yay. Ok, now I've forgotten whatever else I was going to say, mebbe I'll edit it in.

You'll need to read tutorials. The DevShed front page has all you'll ever need.

General Miscellaneous Programming Help:

Hit the tutorials on Devshed.com (echo?) to learn the language.

Go into the PHP forum and read the security thread once you know a little PHP.

Read the MySql Documentation (piecemeal it... don't try to read it all at once)

Read the PHP manual.

Use Google... liberally.

Search these forums.

Have fun!
