SCO code seems bogus (with code images!)
At http://perens.com/Articles/SCOCopiedCode.html you see what SCO had to offer, when comparing Linux code versus their own IP owned code.

A pretty thorough discussion occured in the relatedSlashdot story earlier today.
I think SCO put that out there so stupid people would say "yay!" and not jump the sinking ship quite as fast - nothing more. Unless they have some seeeeeriously sleazy lawyers ready to talk circles around the truth, there's no way they'll be able to prove this was put into the Linux kernel illegitemately. This is especially true since one can find evidence of those comments and code in Unix code from 1979 - long before SCO/Caldera came into being. Of course, they're whole beef with IBM hinges on the ridiculous idea that they own the IP rights to ALL Unix code, a claim which Novell has clearly stated they can debunk. Oh well... we'll watch them dance a while longer, I suppose. It really does frighten me that these "legal shakedowns" are rapidly becoming a legal way to make money off of people who can't afford / aren't informed enough to get a fair trial. See the DirecTV fiasco for more details on that. |

I think its funny how many people and sites are comparing this to the 'Chewbacca defense' used in a South Park episode.

I think that really sums up the position of SCO. Make a lot of noise that doesn't make any sense in an attempt to confuse. The only problem is that this is not a cartoon show, its real life. They really are clutching at straws arent they. |

I thought this opinion by a lawyer who used to be a programmer and now counsels software and technology companies was interesting:

This is just getting irritating. I can't believe that no AG or regulatory commission has perked their lazy head up off their desk and done something about this. Germany basically told them "STFU or make your case" and SCO immediately STFU.
I smell a rat.... a Redmond rat (amusingly, I get the impression that the "company that's paid the license fee" is probably Microsoft..). |

I suspect you're correct about MS being the company that purchased the SCO Linux license, esp considering they've already purchased a Unix license from SCO, and MS recently acquired a company that made anti-virus software for Linux.

I think its great how Microsoft.com reports IIS/5.0 running on Linux when you query it using Netcraft.

Amusing statistic... but misleading... since it's an Akamai (presumably to distribute the dud of a worm's "attack" for survival) owner, it just means that it's being distributed through Linux boxes. An interesting telnet session:
Code:
>telnet microsoft.com 80 HEAD / HTTP/1.1 Host: www.microsoft.com HTTP/1.1 302 Object moved Date: Thu, 21 Aug 2003 14:01:16 GMT Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 P3P: policyref="http://www.microsoft.com/w3c/p3p.xml" CP="ALL IND DSP COR ADM CO No CUR CUSo IVAo IVDo PSA X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Location: http://www.microsoft.com Content-Length: 145 Content-Type: text/html Set-Cookie: ASPSESSIONIDSSTSQTQQ=CMPJNHCCOIDCJKGJHGAALHLD; path=/ Cache-control: private |
