Does anyone of you guys know a simple program, which acts like:
1. hit specific key to take a screenshot 2. auto-save file to a user-defined location Another thing, which is not necessary but would be cool, is to be able to choose the file format. Thanks in advance, Ricochet

I know what you are on about and I used to have a DOS utility for just that job... but I can't remember what the stoopid thing was called... I'll look it up and post back. It was quite a neat little tool

At uni I did a lot of robotics with 486's and ran all my applications in dos - written in C, with real-time control of parallel IO devices and RS232 ports. All the feedback I used to plot on a DOS screen - they were real time plots of transducer displacements, or spectral (fourier) analyses.. so I had to take instantaneous dumps of the screen for my reports. The tool created big bitmap (bmp) images, which I then sucked off and converted to jpg on a different machine.. It was kewl. Now, I am assuming that you could still run the executable in a dos console.. and dump windows screens instead.. who knows? Maybe the project is still supported, in which case you might find something else on the web....
anyway, I have to bail from Linux and re-boot into Windows to find some old reports which hopefully refer to this tool I was using...but I can't do that right now, cos I have a big ftp transfer going and a kernel compiling too.. so it's gonna have to wait till tomorrow. Sorry dude )of course if you were using Linux, you would probably have xv shipped with your distro.. nuff said ;o) christo |

Try SnagIT -> http://www.techsmith.com/
Used to be a small, excellent program that fitted on a floppy. It's a lot bigger now, but still does the job... //NoXcuz

sorry about the delay - I poisoned myself today with a sandwich, and have been dysfunctional for the last 7 hours.
Anway.. the utility was called Doscap If you are happy to download just 38.1k, I'll send over the .exe I also notice that it produces .pcx files - still just as easy to convert mail me if you want a copy of this tool christo :o) |

just to let y'all know,
Running doscap: Just type doscap to load it into memory. Then to capture any (DOS) screen, just hit alt+. That will create a pcx file. so there it is.. and pix files are sequentially numbered, so you can keep on hitting alt + '.' to ren as many dumps as you want... Here's a link for download - it's really very lightweight: http://snow.ag.uidaho.edu/Useful_pr..._DOS/DOSCAP.EXE christo |
