Here's a couple of links you might want to look at that do some comparisons of Python / Perl / Ruby. The general concensus seems to be if you like Perl you'll like Ruby. If you like Python, there aren't many reasons to switch to the other languages.

The recently created Open Source Application Foundation (click here) decided to use Python, wxWindows/wxPython, Mozilla, etc. as primary development tools.
