Smaller wikipedias

i've recently got involved with the west-flemish wikipedia, which currently ranks 124 and has recently been overtaken by ossetian - so definitely is a minor player and probably short of a sufficiently broad knowledge base to make it into a properly sourced on-line encyclopedia

does anyone here have experience with wikipedia flavours other than the english / american one ? if so, i'd like to hear about how the wikipedia you're part of handles being small-ish (btw, west-flanders has a population of about 1 million people, so doesn't really have much of an option of obtaining critical mass)
