Spam block lists
/. is running yet another story about how several of these lists are suffering from DDOS attacks. Not surprising if you consider the shady background of the spammer's, like my former employer.
Anyway, I have to admit that the "Collateral Damage" approach of some of these lists was horrible because of the many legit hosted being blocked, but something needs to be done.
I go away for the weekend to come home to over 100 new email messages. Granted 30 were "reply to some devshed post", but 60 were spam and about 10 were valid. Forunately I rules set up in Mac Mail to move incomming messages from family and friends into their own filter and between Spam Assassin and the Apple Junk mail filter, 95% of all spam is typically removed, but still I average 20 messages a day of spam that makes it through the filters. I can't imagine what it would be like without such filters.
As much as I think there needs to be serious TORT reform in the US, I wish I had the extra $50k in the bank to file a class action against some of these aholes. I mean, at $500 per email in wasted time and resources...but that is wishful thinking.
