Arrow Sparc Station 5

Hello,

What do you think? $200.00 for a Sun SS5. 4 years old. Good condition. Was used as a firewall at a network company that recently got out of business. Sparc 133Mhz CPU; 128MB RAM; 1GB Disk; CD-ROM; Floppy; Solaris 2.7 media included. No monitor.

Just wondering if you think that this is a good deal.

Thanks a lot! Cheers!

Ok, thanks

Thanks Al,

What would be a good price for you? Consider that I live in Asia. So if I would buy it in the US, I have shipping costs and taxes to add.

Cheers!

then you're right you will have to pay some cash for delivering... It might not be such a great deal though, especially with 1 gb hdd. It your call anyway.

Having never worked on a Sun Sparc or anything other than custom built x86 machines or Apple Mac'a... whats the diff between a SS5 and high end x86s or apple macs??

This question might seem stupid, but I am hoping to get some enlightenment about these odd machines, having only seen them in magazine ad.'s...

God Bless
Scott

Thanks Al!

deepspring,

Lemme try...

The difference between a Sun and an x86 machine is the processor. Sun's run on RISC and x86's run on CISC. So their components too are totally incompatible.

Mac's run on RISC too but they cannot run the OS of Sun, which is UNIX (Solaris). And Sun's cannot run Mac OS either.

OK, hope that was alright. Cheers!
