I installed StarOffice 5.2 using the 10 separate binary files that Sun offers. Everything appeared to be OK except I got an error that it couldn't install the ADABAS because files for it were missing... it gave no other errors.
However, when I run the startup script, it tells me that the file sofficerc is missing... despite the fact it's there where SO says it's not, and I can open it, view it, edit it, whatever. Now, when I open the setup script and tell it to repair the installation, it gives me about 10 library files with .so extensions and says it "Can't register them". Huh? So, what does that mean exactly, and why is SO telling me that one file is missing, when clearly it is not? Plus, when I try to Deinstall it, I get an error msg about KILL. I have no clue what's wrong here, but obviously there's quite a bit! I had a lot fewer problems with Word for crying out loud! |

Gaa... this is a pristine example of why one should not do system administration at 1 o'clock in the morning on an empty stomch
![]() I umm.. accidentally installed while in su mode after changing some directory permissions on a root-owned directory. SO had root permissions and noone else could launch some of the scripts that needed to write temp files into the installation directory. Ok, all is well again ![]() |
