Student seeking advice of web developers.
i'm currently a student finishing up my A.S. in Digital Media, basically web design. If i want to be a freelance web developer, what programs should i know? i learned html, dhtml, javascript, some xml, some css, etc.
Also, ne one recommend any good schools in the U.S. to go for a B.A.? |

I suggest you don't learn programs (like dreamweaver and frontpage) but instead learn technologies like xHTML, HTML, XML and languages like Perl, PHP, Java, Javascript.

i agree with rendy. im not sure if they have a BA in web development...you could get certified at one of those tech schools like ITT, Devry, etc.

i don't know about itt, but devry will soak you for all yr worth (at least in canada) and present you with a degree that isn't taken as seriously as a university one (i'm not saying it represents worse instruction - just that the perception is such)
when i left my old job, we spent a month hiring my replacement. during that time it became pretty aparent that my boss and the other two people on the hiring committee had a low opinion of devry - and one of them was even an alumnus! no devry grads made it to the final ten. |

im sure devry, a school that accepts anyone and is more of a trade school than a university, does not have a rep as good as that of a full 4 year university, but for some people it is their only plausible option.

once again this is a "speaking as a canadian" thing (may be different in the states) - but the tuition for two years at devry here is *more* than the tuition for four years at most universities. of course, four years is a lot longer than two and you do have to eat and keep out of the cold during that time.... all i'm really saying is don't discount university! |

You can also go to school while in the military for 25% of the standard cost.
Get your BA while in the service, then use the money they give you for your graduate studies. |
