Suggestion for the boards
Hello,
There was a thread in the lounge about creating a sub-forum for how-to type solutions. That idea got pretty muched poo-pooed. However, I had another though that might help newbies / anyone with code snippets etc. I am a fairly inactive user of the phpbuilder forums (boo, hiss I hear you cry!! ). Anyway, they use the same forum, vbulletin, and now posters have the option of closing the thread as [RESOLVED] .What do you think about that, it would be a great way to find working code snippets? Just a though.... Br Jamie

I think it's a brilliant idee. Then it will be easy 2 know if the problem has been solved, or if the thread starter still needs help.

Its a great idea... esp. not being able to post back to solved issues.
I had another idea for cleaning up the PHP board.... There seem to be 3 primary reasons people post on the PHP board, which could be used to separate the board into sub-forums which cater to those needs. 1. Tech Help - Posts requesting assistance with programming issues. 2. Code Post - Posts containing ready-to-use scripts that are commonly requested 3. Script Search - Posts requesting code that performs a specific function Personally, I'd love to see the "I'm looking for a script that does ......... " posts removed from the PHP board altogether... What do you think? Does the above paradigm make sense?

Although, some peopel will have to sift through all the old posts marking them as resolved. Perhaps a PHP sub-forum where a button on the first post (only available to the thread owner/mods) would just move it to the sub forum and we can set forum permissions to not allow new posts or whatever...

lol, i saw that one too
![]() I think if we have more than one subforum under PHP then we will get a lot of cross posting going on. Trolls will be posting their threads into each forum. |

yeah but don't let users post in the subforum. or only post replies. just let the thread owners move them there when its resolved...

That's implying that thread owners are responsible people interrested in the well-being of this site. Anyone care to guess what percentage that actually is?
I suppose forum mods could do the same, but they can't really say a thread is resolved...dunno. Again, good theory, but it depends on people, who generally can't be trusted. |

No , but I think this forum is pretty good. Lots of people are very quick to point out the search functions / stickies, etc, I think that is what makes this forum better than any other one that I frequent. |
