I forgot that Healy got a hat-trick against Spain! That was some feat!
Surprised that Man U went down today to Bolton, that was (just one!) of the ones that would have bust my coupon had I put it on . . . . . thankful I didn't make it to the bookies this morning ! ![]()

We started a last man standing competition yesterday, and Man U put paid to 11 out of 78
heh, heh, Arsenal had me worried though, they left it late, thought not as late as City 94th minute peno |

Tír Ná nÓg is the name of the Portadown Gaelic Football Team
Last man Standing -each 'player' throws a sub in the kitty, in our case €10 -each week player selects a different team, and the team needs to win, a draw or a loss and you're out -then the next week, select a different team, cycle amongst all teams in the Premiership, until all have been used, if there are still 'players' standing -last man in lifts the pot |

Was playing one of those earlier in the season. It's trickier than you think, because you need to save the big teams for weeks where there aren't any other obvious winners. Got knocked out by Newcastle not beating bloody Derby (I think about 70% of remaining participants went out that week). I'd even managed to successfully use Spurs and Middlesbrough when form was going their way (and that hasn't happened much this season!).

I am using it to refer to something called 'Land of Far Beyond' I read in an Irish folklore story once. I just googled for it and came across this: Oisin in Tír na nÓg, which is familiar, but they call the land the 'Land of Youth' - so maybe my memory isn't as good as I thought it was. Less about the myth - more about the 'place'. lol - and a quote from wikipedia "Tír na nÓg (spelled Tir na Nog) is used as the capital city of Arthurian Hibernia in the online fantasy role playing game Dark Age of Camelot". It's only a hint to people as to where I'm from. Quote:
[Big pot!!]You could make it €1 per week - such a pot by the end of the season!! Quote:
Oops, I just took a look at the table, that loss has caused Man U to drop to second and Arsenal have a game in hand. Dear-oh-dear eh? [FWIW - I watch more Man U games than any other] So, does everyone who post in this thread have Sky Sports? Or, like me, do you's watch the highlights? Quote:
If that is considered poor English, and I suspect it is, it is a colloquialism where I'm from. It might just be 'yous'?? ![]() Last edited by prcAdap : November 26th, 2007 at 07:35 AM. |

Ulster English is quite acceptable when used in the vernacular, I hail from outside Newry originally
some folks run it at €10 per week, we just run €10 per competition, 78 competitiors, now 67, pot stays at €780, when that's finished, start again, hopefully with more players ... Tír ná nÓg does in fact mean 'Land of Youth', it's why they could never take foot outside of it, they had to stay on their horses, or the ravages of time would be upon them. Quite possibly the earliest introduction of time travel in folklore ... |

Just out of curiosity, what happens if there is no one left standing at the end?
