Job lookout for various technologies
A search on Monster.com (the biggest source of job posting) returned these results:
Java: 3674 jobs PHP: 228 jobs JSP: 953 jobs ASP: 3595 jobs ASP.NET: 504 .NET: 1381 Perl: 1235 Python: 62 C#: 601 C++: 2392 SQL: 5000+, presumably close to 9000 PL/SQL: 784 VB: 2713 XML: 2349 Coldfusion: about 300 Monster.com uses ASP, by the way ![]() Last edited by vb.net : June 1st, 2003 at 02:33 PM. |

Wow... I'm amazed at how low the PHP job count is! How is it that PHP is the #1 scripting lang for websites, but has the lowest job draw?
At least theres a huge lead of Java over C#, tho ![]() |

That is interesting! I would think PHP would be at the top of that list, unless most PHP programmers are also proficient in other languages - so the count my be skewed slightly.

I think it makes sense: PHP is the popular language for PERSONAL websites, while JSP and ASP are more enterprise level. Since the jobs are posted by mostly big corporations like Boeing, there's not much demand for PHP.
One thing I've noticed is that some sites like Amazon.com can't handle search for the # character. Did Microsoft do some analysis before they put a nail on the coffin that was to be named C#? And also .NET can be a pain to search for too. |

Is there a reason why you mix "real" programming languages in with web programming languages? It just seems odd to compare C++ to php but I guess in the over all scheme of things it does make sense to look at all of them to see what is most needed.
