According to the story it is alegged insider trading. They're almost positive due to his winning streak. I say if there is no body then there is no murder. Let him go.

Well, if there are no pre-2002 records, what do you have to disprove the guy?

That's not how law works, I believe. The law has to prove guilt. The accused person does not have to prove innocence if there is no evidence against him or her.

If you would have to prove yourself innocent in court, I could simply get a lawyer and say "You killed Soandso - prove your innocence!", but I couldn't do that, of course, without evidence.

As for that guys portfolio - although it might be 0.000000001% likely that something like that could happen, it's still not impossible.

Of all the things you could do if you traveled 200 years into the past, why would you trade stocks?

It just seems like a time traveler would have better things to do ...

Also, if he really does have a time machine, wouldn't it have made more sense to just buy stocks in 2003, then travel back up to 2250, and sell them? Wouldn't he have made more $$ that way?

Yes that would have made more sense, unless there isn't a stock market in 2250.

So he may have had to do it this way :P

Yeah, but regardless. How do you get THAT much insider information on 127 different companies? Expecially ones that do well in high risk within 2 weeks? It would take a LOT of people a LOT of time to come even CLOSE to that.

If you note the source, you'd see that its from the Weekly World News - a tabloid paper that posts such great stories as Bat Boy and Egyptian Mummified Space Alien Found!

Its a bullcrap article written by a bullcrap newspaper posted on a just plain old crap website. Get your news from a news source, not Yahoo crap. They are junk.

I know the story was fictitious, but just to answer your question, he did not know because in the future he knows, he wasn't there. That's why when you watch sci-fi movies, there is such thing as changing the future or contamination in time.

Given the intelligence level of some of the responses, That fact was evident. We were merely discussing 'what if...'

The Grandfather Paradox

http://www.anu.edu.au/Physics/cours...randfather.html

Any slight change in the past will change the future!
So the only way this could really work is if there were paralel universes, in which case he could never get back to his own "real" time, it would invariably be different from when he left.

Sorry to bring a slightly old topic up, but it seems to have appeared on snopes.com as an urban legend:
