To rsynch not to rsynch

Hello all

Can i use rsynch on a Windows 2000 server or a 2000 client?
I need to transfer some software installers and drivers over our WAN to our "Branches". This is to be done on a weekly basis and it is part of my "Improving" the service that my new employers helpdesk provides.

The problem is thisexample)

A user calls and say's that MS Office will not work. I have a look and it's broken for sure. It needs to be re installed. The procedure as it is means that i have to log a call, burn Office onto a CD, post it to the "site", wait for them to recieve the disk, wait for them to remember to call me, log in via pcAnywhere as Administrator, install the software and then ask them to post the cd back to me, which hardly ever happens.

You see my problem, it can take me a week to install Office! Plus most of the time we never see the disk again.

My idea is that we nominate one PC at each site to be the "Filestore" then i transfer all installers and drivers to them all overnight via rsynch. I can then log in as Administrator whenever i fell like it and install software localy on the clients at that site.

I also need an idiots guide to using rsynch as i aint got a clue ;-)

If you have a better idea please let me know.

Regards

Trebz

yes, dont use anything that starts with r*. the r* commands all invite someone to try and exploit the trust based relationship that r commands rely on. google on: 'exploiting trust relationship hacking'

lol, gererally: ack.
But rsync does support ssh, this minimizes the trust issues - you only have to use it ... and find a suitable windows counterpart
