I bought the thing and plugged it in, but can't seem to get it working.
TV shows "My setup name is ChromecastXXXX"
I run the set-up program, and it SEES the device, as it knows its name - "ChromecastXXXX".
But I always get this message:
"We can't seem to connect to your Chromecast. Make sure your Chromecast is powered on and nearby and you are not on a VPN"
Now, I have CenturyLink DSL. My system is Win7. My connections are "Home" not "Public".

have you tried turning OFF the Firewall on your PC while doing the install? ..as it may be that a port is being blocked , that is needed for the connection.
