(UK) Run Server from Home, Connection Services.

Hi,

Anyone out there in the UK running their own servers from Home / Office, I am looking for some help with connection services, what should I go for, leased lines, *DSL, any reputable companies out there that offer these services.

I'm not interested in Co-lo or any of that, I want the server in front of me, this part of it I can do, I just can't find any decent guides on the type of connection I should be looking at getting.

TIA

If you are expecting a decent amount of trafic on your site you might want to consider a T1 or T3, but not being from the UK I could not even begin to estimate the cost of either of these there.

I admit that I'm totally incompetent with these arguments.
Actually I have a virtual dedicated server which runs on a freebsd remote machine.
In the near future I would like to have a web server at home running on freebsd, but I have a lot to study and learn.
In Italy actually I could buy an ADSL line, HDSL costs too much.

I answer to your question because I'm interested too.
Better I can't give you an answer, I can't, but I could give you some links that I have found during these days.

They are:

http://forums.devshed.com/showthrea...8354&forumid=26

http://forums.devshed.com/showthrea...highlight=pppoe

http://ezine.daemonnews.org/200202/multiweb.html

One thing that I have undertand ( have I ? ) is to have static ip,
so choose an ADSL provider that can provide them.

It seems that a thing to avoid, if possible, is pppoe.
See section 2.5 @
http://www.roaringpenguin.com/pppoe/als-pppoe-paper.pdf

I do not know If having a static ip you can avoid pppoe.

As I said I can't tell you more,
but If you'll find some infos I will be happy to share them with you and us ( the forum ).

An illiterate network administrator.
