USB/CAT5 networking via 1 dsl modem
I have a westell wirespeed dsl modem
I want to network these 2 computers that are side by side. It has a connection for a usb and a connection for a cat5. Instead of going out and buying a reouter and all that junk, can I hooked a cat5 wire up to one computer, and a usb wire into the second computer, and can they both access the internet? If anyone knows for sure, pls tell me, so I dont go and waste money buying a usb wire and end up not being able to use it. thanks! |

I don't know about the hookup you described, but you can most likely hook up one computer to the modem through USB, network the two computers together, and setup the one with the connection to the modem to act as a router.

I'm not sure because I don't have XP home here, but if it is an optional component, try start > control panel > add/remove programs > add/remove windows components and it would be there. If it isn't, good luck!
