VStudio 6 vs VStudio.NET
I was just wondering if there was any major functional reason to get Visual Studio.NET rather than Visual Studio 6.0 for my personal use. They are equally easy to get, but I run win2k (when I do windows at all), and don't want to upgrade to xp just for .NET unless it is really worthwhile. Again, this is just for my personal use, mostly in C++. Thanks for comments.

From my limited use of VS6 and even shorter use of VS.NET, I'd have to say stick with 6. VS.NET adds all the fun ".NET framework" that I'm betting you're not using, and a bunch of easier-to-use wizards that generate tons of code for you. In short, it seems, to me, to increase programmer apathy.
If all you do is casually use VS, version 6 is fine. Delightfully simplified (in comparison) for the C/C++ guys.

MSVC.NET runs on other MS OS's. I use it on Win2000. In fact I have used both on the same machine at the same time. .NET has better memory error checking during debugging. Better tool tips in the compiler and better help. Not to metion the updated C++ compiler, SDK and MSDN (but these last two can be downloaded from MS if you have the bandwidth)

I think I'm going to stick w/ VS6 for now. I'm pretty basic in my programming (no 1337 skillz yet, lol) so the advantages of VS.NET would be wasted. Thanks for the comments
