Webmastering Issue
OKay, im part of a web team at my school. Im on this team since septemeber. There are also 2 other members, also on the team since september. The project manager is moron. He doesnt much about webmastering other than HTML. He doesnt understand the logistics behind. The other 2 people are idiots. I dont think they even understand HTML that well. Ive been in the this web business/mastering for the last 13 years. Ive bleed webmastering. Ive accumulated tons of scripting knowledge, database usage, etc, etc. The head guy is leaving and is thinking about making 1 of the 2 idiots his replacement. When i heard this, i hit the roof. THey both lack any skill in anything that has to do with the web. They are simpleminded. Just imagine just knowing a bit of html and be in the running position for this job.
What i need help in is to find out why this chick is being considered for this position and how to confront this guy about. B/c if she gets it, im gonna leave. The head guy doesnt know jack about the net ,but knows enough where i can communicate on an intelligent level, these 2 other people are dumb as rocks. What should i say or ask to him about this situation? |

There's your answer - chick. May be your looser boss wants to get some, may be he just likes her, may be he owes a favor. I don't know, but I bet it has got to do with her being female. How to confront? Dirty way - sue for discirmination. Durtier - start talking on them. Clean way - quit. Seriously, it depends on your relations with bosses and how much they like/hate you.

I don't understand what is going on here? At your school you say (you're a teacher?) ?? The position is volunteer (no pay involved)? Is this a question of respect to you, or a one of you want to get the job done well?
Al, buddy it is the other way round. Women don't get jobs for being women And then when they do get a job, they get paid less than men. LOL.Z. |

From what I gather killerasp is may be a parent who volunteered to do a project work for school, and other people who did the same don't know first thing about computers but get 'promotion' - if there is one - before him.
And Zitan, I'm talking from personal experience, and yes this is not the case in most jobs but sometimes it is. /me is having a flashback... |

I wasn't going to point that out
LOL. Killer if this is just school project, swallow your pride I just try and help to group as best as possible and have some fun. The result doesn't matter, and the people skills you learn will help you later on. |

i say leave the team. the potential for headache with that kind of group is just too much. you're gonna end up doing all the work while they get all the credit. let them work with the project, then step in later after it fails.
... but i'm also a pessimist, so you can also ignore what i said above. |

This whole thread sounds like my life since I took my current position...
![]() Y'know, technically killerasp never did say WHAT school he was in (perhaps college?) or how old he was... pessimist! Killerasp - You're learning valuable life experience and people skills! For the next 60 years or so you will be surrounded by three types of people: 1. Other low-paid, intelligent, capable, hard-working drones who are given commands by: 2. Moderately paid idiots who kiss the asses of: 3. The high paid piles of primordial ooze in business suits that run things... Throw in the occasional reorg and layoff rounds, and you've pretty much got this thing called "work" figured out! Every time I think of the real-world Dilbert I think of the Signetics engineer that circulated specifications for "write-only memory" as a joke, only to have it approved by the management and offered by the Marketing department until customers started calling for prices... if that story doesn't tell the true tale of the business world, I don't know what does... |

Don't tell them they are dumb, make them feel like that. If their code sucks so much just modify it until they don't recognize it (nobody!) then when they'll complaint just tell'em: "your code SUCKS!!" (using gentle words if you prefer) and the rest should follow naturally. I'm machiavelic, what do you wan't.
