What kind of deal should I ask for?
I've been developing a specialized industry app which my work office now uses as its base for all operations. Not something they asked me to but I made it to make my own job easier.
My company is now considering marketing it to similar organizations all over the world as it is a pretty nifty peice of work, even if I do say so myself :]. They are not a software company and will probably ask me to head up the project. I've never been contracted for something like this and was wondering what kind of deal I should be asking for. The project itself will probably generate in the range of 1 to 5 million US. |

Will your company produce sell and support the product itself or outsource it all?

They are probably going to leave all of that to me. So I'm thinking if it goes ahead I will set up a small team under a sub-company name. We are only looking at a base of about 20,000 target companies and will be selling it as a corporate package.
Everything will be handled by the project team. Last edited by Jayde : April 24th, 2003 at 01:48 AM. |

Your best bet would be to get a certain percentage off sales - if you can do that with something that has great potential but your employees are too dumb to notice, then you're golden. That percentage will vary depending on what exactly it is and what is that you're doing with it, but my guestemate is ~10-20%.
If not - then look around on the market what would you make on similiar role (sounds a lot like project leader or technical manager or something like that) and add a bit on top as a founder and senior developer. Again, depending on the company but I'd imagine you're looking at ~90k base + super & benefits. Of course, if you're dealing with non for profit church school then that will go down, if your client is microsoft then you can double that. All depends on your background, company profile and your role.
