Yeah I just figured it out by reading your reply to Silky's question.

Lately I have started to use 'View new posts' function. That way I can have hold of whole Devshed forums !!!

How many of you use it ?
I guess its pretty cool feature. [ Provided PPL use sensible Topic names !! ( where is freebsd, btw ??? ) ]

Hmmm....

It took me a while, but I think my first post was a question. The last post I could track down was 10.30.2001 09.48 AM, about PHP reserved words. Like many others here, I also liked, and still do, to spend time answering other peoples questions. My main problem has been that I haven't had many answers for the more diffecult questions. I've answered what I've could.

I believe I am in the same boat as you are Datamike. I have only asked a hand-full of questions, whenever I get stuck on something and can't search out the answer someway. Most of the time I try and help someone (sometimes failing miserably) but this is more of a learning experience for me. I have learned more about php since I have been at this forum than I can account for.

I actually think that most of the questions I have asked I have went back and answered myself when I figured out the answer. I can sometimes do that if I can just walk away from the problem for a little while.

My first post? Nov. 20, 2001 and I answered a sql question.

Congratulations, JD!

I've just looked at my first posts and now feel very embarassed ... I wrote multiple paragraphs in the first one and apologized for bad news. If I found the question today, I'd have answered it with "RTFM" and (perhaps) a link.

I even sometimes replied to worldtouch's stuff

Btw, I'd like to apologize to JD here about one thing:
once, I spent some time debugging (in fact, rewriting) worldtouch's code and wanted to post the file as an attachment to her thread. When I finished the code, the thread was gone. Since JD had had a rather hot discussion with her in the same thread, I first assumed that he had deleted the thread.

After what I've seen in the last months, I wouldn't have thought so foolishly again.

Sorry, JD. (Perpaps you still have my PM about this in your inbox )

I must say I quite like DevShed. Mods like JD who take their job serious and a very caring community of extremely competent users have made this site a very good source of inspiration and advice.

I think most of us have failed miserably, when answering or asking questions. I also take my time here more like a learning experience. I especially like to go through the replies made by jd, andnaess, Alcapone, freebsd, and other longtime members of these forums, picking up hints and tips that I might find useful in my own work. (No, I am not kissing butts here. It's just the way I find my time here worth it.)

Basicly, any intresting question has catches my eye. If I don't have an answer I wait for some else to answer it and then try pickup on the lesson. Like why d is after c and why do this and not that. It has taught me a lot.

I have this memory about one of my first posts in apache forum.

One day I put a question inside apache forum and I was afraid to receive as an answer: "....it has been asked dozen of times...."
( at that time the two top threads inside php forum didn't exist )

Obviously I got that answer ( ie ....it has been asked....etc ),
and obviously the man who wrote that was perfectly right....

Have I undertand the lesson ?.....boh!!.....I hope so!!!

Hmm, I guess my first post here was an answer to a Python question about templates. After that, I started answering some questions in the PHP forum, but I got tired of all the simple questions that could have been found by searching. In the PHP forum, I only read threads from users that usually start interesting topics or anything that looks like it is a little 'advanced'. Now I usually only answer questions in the Python or XML forum, and get mad at some Scandinavians in the lounge.
