Hello everyone,
I noticed that I crossed 2k posts today. Then I thought let me see how I used to post earlier. I went back, searched the posts by me. What I found was really amazing. Initially I used to make sure that I write a subject, select an Icon. Start with some nice salutation to answer someone's query. Man things have changed a lot. These days I hardly type in subject. No salutation for anyone, To the point stuff. Yeah my first post was not about posting a problem but it was about answering someone's problem. Though I feel I learned a lot by coming here. So many a things. For quite a few things I didn't need to post quesion cause I could always search and find answer to the problem. Hardly I needed to start a thread. Also made so many friends !! Cheers to Devshed forums !! So what is your experience guyz ? Have you changed over the time about how you post on this forum ? Let me know !!! Have nice time, JD

I started off posting short snippets. Then they got really long for a while. Now I'm back to posting as short and concise as possible. A lot of times I just post links for people who don't know how to use a search engine (as rod k once posted - Repeat after me... "The Manual is my Friend, The Manual is my Friend...")
I used to post answers to everything as a way of learning more about MySQL (even if I didn't know anything about the topic). I found out the dangers of doing this when on my 8th post, NoXcuz informed somebody that I had given some bad advice. Doh! At this point I started testing my suggestions first. The funny thing about it is I initially came to this forum looking for help and answers. As it turned out, I've asked almost none and spent my time solving other people's problems. I found out you can learn a lot by playing help desk because some people out there are trying to do some weird stuff. |

My first post failed... the Devshed engine crashed with some weird error, so I got a very good first impression of Devshed
The result was that my second post (or the first that actually was accepted) was simply me cursing Devshed for their incompetence.Little has changed in other words ![]()

Darryl - do you remember stuff like that? Coz I don't... I hope I at least was polite...
Well, my first post here was a question about Javascript and PHP. Got some good answers, but never got around to use it though... Then I just forgot about Devshed for a while, until I faced another problem. So I went back, actually searched the forums and found an answer, and didn't have to post anything. But that kept me coming back looking for things, and I started to *try* and help others out. And got stuck with it... Now I try and keep things short, so I won't mess it up too much... Although that happens anyway... And as some of you already has said, you can find lots of interesting problems and solutions here. If you just bother to look for them... So let's salute Devshed!!! //NoXcuz

My fist post, happened right after I read one article on paypal's security system and how much it used to suck. And fjodor happened to started thread about blocking brute force guessing - that was my first post on devshed.
Incidentally, jdk became our mod only few weeks since my registration, sure enough my first post became my last post j/k m8, ya'll doing good job.Actually, my first several posts weren't bad at all - I was trying to be more or less polite and keep good post size.... thats too bad I've lost those qualities during this time ![]() jd, you better watch your back bo, I am too gonna hit 2k in about month, hehe

Actually, I'm frightened to go back to read my previous posts. I'm afraid at what I might find that I've written
![]() That's one reason I've not written any more articles. Unlike forum messages, they tend to hang around where people can see them for much longer periods of time. But maybe I'll write one again some day. Got some ideas about n-tier achitecture in PHP....

Well this is turning into a who's who of DevShed. As the only triple-digit poster, I feel kind of inadequate.

C'mon Darryl... It's not the number of posts that counts. It's more the quality than the quantity that matters...
You've definitly contributed and shared your knowledge a lot more than some other users with a few hundred posts... But I guess you already knew that... Anyway, here's a smiley for you to make you feel better ![]() NoXcuz |

Yeah, Ok, while we're at '# of posts dont matter' let me introduce new member here - Analyzer. If he is who I think he is (I might know him from code.box.sk), then he'll contribute to our forums quite a bit.
And, dcaillouet, people come and go, so I dont believe in who's who of anything, especially devshed. Of course there're elite memebers - we all know who they are and they do not need to be 'buged' about how good they're at what they do. Whereas, generally speaking guys with more posts just happened to be around longer then guys with not-so-many posts, but again, that don't mean someone is smarter at particular field. |

In case it wasn't obvious, I was being totally facetious. If someone's asking a guestion in a technical forum, I give a serious answer. If its in the "Lounge", probably not. I wasn't making any comment on the smartness of the posters or the quality of their advice (just look at rod k's Fantastic Tool post from a couple of days ago
).All I was saying is that I recognized everyone who had posted because they do post so much. |

I joined like a year ago. I think I asked a PHP question first.
I end up helping people there and around. ![]()

Those are all interesting replies !!!
![]() Hey, dcaillouet where you hang out most ? Cause I hardly see you in PHP and Perl. Btw Al, I am definately sure that you are soon gonna cross 2k posts, Man your rate is 12 posts per day !!! Mine is just 4.xyz !!!! Do you sleep or not ???? ![]() Though as NoXcuz said, # of posts doesnt matter much. See all the time I keep posting crap !!!! ![]() Also, mine situation was just like NoXcuz. I joined in late 2000 but just from Sep 2001 I started posting agreesively. [ Can we have stats like what's my posts/day after Sept 2001 ??? ]Also, initially I was just working with Perl. This forum only lead me to learn PHP. ![]() Anyone has been to Hotscripts forum ? Yeah, hotscripts used to run forums !! I was 'hot scripter' there and then they decided to take it off !! It was cool. I remember firepages being there. I don't know if any one else has been there.Thats it !! Have nice time , JD |

Over 50% of my posts are in the MySQL forum. I do mostly database / desktop applications so you don't see me in the web forums. |
