Know what I hate? I hate when you put a simple, straight-forward, easily accesible way for people to submit comments, corrections, suggestions, etc. in an obvious spot on your site, tell them about it, explain to them how to use it, then have it totally ignored. What's best though is when people ignore it, mention a correction, addition, or suggestion in passing somewhere, then get p!ssed off when you forget about it. Hmmm... gee.... is that perhaps why I went to all the trouble to set up a standard contact medium for you that would record and organize your suggestion so I'd have a record of it and could prioritize it against other tasks? Why yyeesssss. Indeed, that's why I did that! Is there a record of your verbal request? Why nooooo. No there is not. And seeing as I have more than 100 things scheduled to do at the moment - literally - I'm REAL sorry that your 1 paltry suggestion that you didn't submit in any tangible form was forgotten....

The best part is, I got hammered on this one TWICE. Before the nasty message that inspired the rant above, somebody mentioned it to their superior who didn't bother to tell me about it AT ALL - much less submit it to me through proper channels. Then the guy finally came around and told me about it and made a passing comment about "..my supervisor asked me what the status on that was the other day" in a way that suggests: "Why didn't you read someone's mind and start this project that no one bothered to tell you about?"

Ugh... users...... pass the Zoloft and a beer...

I setup a general, easy to find link for corrections/updates to an app that I made, which almost everyone (including several non-technical people) have been using for a while.

One day the head of the dept.asked me to create the exact functionality that I had already made, but for some reason every time I tried explaining that the functionality was already there I would get brushed off and he would say it doesn't work that way (even though I wrote the app and other people had been using that functionality for almost a year already).

Anyways, now almost a year after the app was originally created there are 2 easy to find links (right next to each other) that do practically the same things right next to each other, and so far the only who's used the newer, "easier" functionality is the requestor. Normally he's a very decent, easy going guy, but for some reason in this case he just didn't want to see what was already there.

Just change the colors and give it a new name, that should satisfy him. I woudn't try to convince him of what you've already done, that would mean he's wrong and supervisors are never wrong (for that reason they are not humans).

At my last job the schedule changed from 16:30 to 16, the first day I came in at that time one of the sup. asked me why I was late and told him I wasn't. After some arguing he concluded the "Punch'o matic" (monitors breaks, lunch, etc) was faulty. Y'ah sure!

I was going to say... just move the link so that it's left aligned or something and tell him your done, then hype up the accomplishment of such a rapid systems upgrade. What's he going to do, call you on it and tell you that the functionality he's asking for was just something that was already there that you moved to the left? Who's the bigger idiot if he does that?

If I can remember (correct me if i'm wrong) but Michelangelo had the same thing going when he made his famous stone sculpture of David.

He showed it to his contrators (i believe it was the vatican) and they disliked it, becouse they thought the nose was to big. So Michelangelo pretended he worked on that and showed them again the (unaltered) statue and they loved it.

I always feel like Michelangelo, when users come up with stupid tricks like that. (and act like him too)
