Where to go for free photographs

I'm building a title bar for a site, but I need some photographs to play around with... you know the sort of stuff, tweaking the colours, hue etc and blending them a little...

I have spent some time looking around on the web, but people (quite naturally) want to charge for their images.

Is there a resource on the web for finding free images for download - I need stuff like a mobile phone, a guy with a laptop, a countryside scene, a financial type of image... and I need to be able to used them on a commercial site without getting into copyright probs.

Ideas?

Christo

Yes, it's a great search tool, but it would be too time consuming to e-mail all the image owners to request permission to use the photograph. You'll notice that if you click on an image returned by google, it usually has the caption "this image my be copyrighted" underneath... and clicking on the image will take you to a web site - where the image is held... I could do that anyway!

So where do people go to search libraries of images without copyright restrictions?

I went to Google and typed "free images" and came up with a lot of royalty free stock photos.

Old thread I know but I'm new here so I'm searching on stuff I'm interested in before I start posting "duplicate" questions.

I found free-photographs.net recently which appears to be a new-ish site, or maybe it just never appeared in my searches before, unlike a lot of "free" photograph sites I've seen there are no limits, no need to register and no "premium" services.

Does anyone else know of any similar sites? Maybe we could start a list here?
