If only I had written this, but alas it was not me. Such a classy article, my favourite quote:
Quote: | "it was a meeting of 2 1/2 hours with 3 Microsoft sales/consulting reps trying to persuade us not to use Open Source because "it is inherently insecure, unreliable" and, what was their biggest argument, "there is nobody in this country who could give you any support for Open Source", etc." |
If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black I don't know what is :-)
Btw, a gov department here in NZ just put out a large RFP (way too large for us). I was very ashamed of this. Here are some quotes and some sample responses:
Quote: | It is expected that the selected vendors will be competent in developing on the Microsoft platform including .net framework. |
We agree that corporate managers should tell IT developers how to develop and what tools to use. Here all our managers believe solely in M$, and developers do what they are told.
Quote: | The ****** is looking for vendors who are Microsoft Certified Partners or, if not, vendors who are prepared to commit to become certified by year end 2003. |
We believe that all developers, people and animals should be M$ certified because it makes us better beings. M$ certification guarantees all our work will be reliable, secure and perform well, just like all M$ products.
Quote: | Along with the Microsoft platform, the ******* is likely to require experience on other application server environments for example Websphere, Oracle, IAS etc. |
We are surprised that a large organisation who wants a enterprise system would consider anything other than M$. However we do have some experience with Websphere and Oracle, who both of course are very, very expensive. This fact alone guarantees that they are quality products.
Quote: | Develop applications that are secure by working under a security framework for application development. |
Using M$ how could our software not be secure, is this a trick question?
Quote: | How will your organisation respond when asked to use a technology or process with which you disagree? |
Haven't you read dlibert? We'll roll over, sit, play dead as requested, just like all good IT companies.
How did I do?
