While shopping for a UPS. . .
I came across this as a selling point in the marketing babble:
Quote:
So the logo itself is what makes the UPS compatible with XP? Fascinating. http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3493433 |

yep, without the logo its not worth anything. Do not remove the logo, if you do the UPS will cause Windows XP to crash. It will also cause your neighbours dog to eat your cat and it will cause all of the food in your fridge to go off.
You have been warned! |

Heh.. I have a 350 humming away on the desk behind me... I immediately put it to work on a Linux box and two monitors as soon as I got it set up.... Linux XP maybe?
Actually works pretty well, but with all the juice getting sucked out of it, it only holds for about 5 minutes, so if the power goes out, I have it set to just shut everything down after a minute. |

Microsoft has some pretty specific rules for what your hardware or software must do, if you want to put a Designed for Windoze logo on your product. In software for example, one of the rules specifies that the software must use standard colors and controls, windows approved standard installer, support long file names etc. --- so software like Kai Power Tools could never qualify for a windows logo. Microsoft publishes the guidelines of what they're looking for. Also, they mention a third party company called veritest, that also checks for compliance. For more info:

Also, if you try to install something that isn't logo certified, the os complains violently. It came as a shock to me when I tried to install my LinkSys wireless card, it's not certified! Any professional product should really have it, I can't belive LinkSys never did so...

Do they also required that certified products die suddenly for no reason at all?
